Hello everyone! Looking to motivate your kids to keep reading through the summer? I am too, so I’ve decided to launch a kids book club on Facebook (Story Time With Michele – Book Club) and, in collaboration with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), I’ll have a suggested summer reading list for all of your PreK – Grade 3 readers. Beginning June 4, week by week I’ll post a video of each book read aloud. If you can’t find the book at your library or book shop, no need to worry as I will also include subtitles on the videos so that your child can read along with me!
RIF has some pretty nice supporting materials for each book, such as word search games, crossword puzzles, coloring pages, etc which I will link to as well. After I’ve posted each video, I’ll open up a discussion on the Facebook group page. I’d love to hear your kids’ thoughts about each book. Let’s stay in touch and keep our children excited about reading! It truly is the best way to ensure they are getting the education we so dearly want for them.
In the meantime, check out RIF’s Literacy Central which is a massive resource for supporting materials to accompany most of your favorite books. I’ve found that providing these kinds of activities is an opportunity to take your child’s engagement with books to another level. When the whole reading experience is desirable, fun, interesting, engaging then you will have your little one hooked on reading!!! At least that’s what I’ve seen in my home.
I’d love to know what you think about this idea of mine, please leave a comment down below! And, if you haven’t already seen some of my videos on YouTube, please check them out (Story Time With Michele). I have almost 30 stories read aloud primarily for the 3-7 year old age range! If you like what you see be sure to subscribe to the channel so you can keep up-to-date!
Motivating children to read through summer is so important! My parents always encouraged me to read and grow my knowledge, and now I’m an avid reader 🙂 Great post!
Awesome!
